Rachel de Thame has agreed to become an Ambassador for the Hardy Plant Society. She will join our team of high-profile gardening ambassadors Matthew Biggs, Matthew Wilson and Carol Klein. Rachel will work with The Chair of the HPS to promote the society and give her support to our work.
Rachel is a presenter on BBC Gardeners World and a long-term member of the presenting team for all the major RHS Flower Shows. She is a broadcaster, writer and gardener. Having trained initially at the Royal Ballet School, she went on to gain professional qualifications in Practical Horticulture and Plants & Plantsmanship at The English Gardening School. Other television series include Small Town Gardens, Gardening with the Experts and Great British Garden Revival for the BBC, and Countrywise for ITV. Her radio appearances include A Good Read for BBC Radio 4 and Essential Classics for BBC Radio 3.
She is the author of four gardening books, including her latest title “A Flower Garden for Pollinators”, Rachel is a regular columnist for The Garden Magazine for the RHS and writes for The Sunday Times and BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine.
Her design projects have included the LK Bennett Garden at Chelsea Flower Show and the floral decorations for the Royal Barge during the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant. Rachel co-curated the RHS London Rose Show and has given talks at The Ashmolean Museum, The Garden Museum, Highgrove, Oxford Botanic Garden and The Royal Geographical Society.
