Q:
Thank you for the resources you share. You ask about any questions….There are always questions with gardening of course but I think timely reminders on pruning specific things is always helpful and propagation and germination tricks for tricky things. How to overwinter tender things when conditions are cold and wet without getting horrible tops on the pots? I am guessing good ventilation and maybe grit or wood chips on top. They always look so good in nurseries but mine get green growth on the top or moss. I am lucky enough to have two tunnels one I use solely for rearing things with a 8 x 4 heat bench.
Looking forward to spring.
A:
Yes, you are correct in that grit on the top of your pots of tender plants you wish to overwinter under protection in wet and cold conditions is the best way to go. Wet and cold isn’t a good situation for survival. Keeping your pots on the dry side and improving air circulation should help. With grit at least you can peel it off easily if moss accumulates.
