Conservation Scheme information for Epimedium ‘Milky Way’



  • ID: P205
  • Introduced: 2019
  • By: Hampshire Group
  • Reason: Historical interest. Grown by Blackthorn Nursery from seed collected by Roy Lancaster (HPS President) and introduced in 2008.
  • Verified by: Hampshire Group member, Sue Ward.
  • Description: Clump-forming semi-evergreen perennial with many, relatively small flowers held above attractive foliage.
  • Dimensions: 30cm x 30cm
  • Flowers: Multiple stems carry sprays of pristine white flowers with long spurs and yellow stamens.
  • Foliage: New spring foliage is attractively speckled with deep purple markings. At maturity, the small semi-evergreen leaflets display an attractive silver overlay to main veins.
  • Soil: Any soil, but needs soil that doesn’t dry out in summer and has good winter drainage.
  • Aspect: Part shade
  • Pests: Vine weevil may be a problem.
  • Cultivation: Grow in a sheltered position in humus-rich soil.
  • Propagation: Divide in autumn.
