The Berkshire Group meetings are held at St. Peter’s Church Hall, Church Road, Earley, Reading. RG6 1EY.  (map). Doors open at 7.15 p.m. and meetings start at 7.45 p.m.

Visitors are welcome at all our meetings. The admission fee for non-members is £5 per evening at the door unless stated otherwise. The annual subscription rate for the Berkshire Group is £10 per person (membership of the National Society is necessary).

9th January ‘LIFE AND COLOUR OF THE PYRENEES’ – Anthony Powell
Based in Reading, Berkshire, Antony Powell, HND. trained at Hillier Nurseries and Askham Bryan College. He is currently managing several small gardens in West Berks and North Hampshire. Anthony has also worked and travelled abroad including the 1983 Kashmir Botanical Expedition.

13th February ‘FOR THE LOVE OF SNOWDROPS’ – Lyn Miles
Lyn Miles, is chairman of the Galanthus Group of the HPS and opens her garden, Westcroft, near Salisbury, for the NGS every Thursday 4th January to 7th March. See ngs.org.uk for further details and booking.

12th March AGM followed by a talk on ‘HELLEBORES’ – Maureen Cole
Maureen is a member Berkshire Hardy Plant Group and an experienced and knowledgeable gardener.

9th April ‘ROSES – ALL ABOUT ROSES ‘ – Jacqueline Aviolet
Jacqueline has been a public speaker and nursery owner for over ten years and shares her practical and horticultural experiences. She also includes historical and anedotal information with humour.

18th May (Saturday) ANNUAL PLANT FAIR –
A large selection of plants grown by our members including some unusual varieties not readily available at garden centres. Open to the general public (1:30pm – 3:30pm). £1 admission fee.

11th June ‘ MANIPULATING THE SEASONS’ – Marina Christopher
Marina runs Phoenix Plants which sells excellent hardy plants with an emphasis on plants for all seasons to providing nectar for pollinating insects. Her lectures are always inspiring and full of practical growing tips and she brings plants to talk about and sell.

10th September ‘THE ANSWER LIES IN THE SOIL’ – Geoff Hawkins
Geoff is the retired Head gardener of Mill court estate near Alton, and uses his vast experience to lecture in practical gardening skills, garden design and growing fruit and vegetables. He lectures for the WEA and speaks on LBC’ Radio’s Growing Matters and is a judge for horticultural shows.

8th October ‘SALVIAS’ – Colin Roberts
Colin is Head Gardener at Adwell House, near Thame, and shares his knowledge of growing Salvias of which there are many varieties in the garden.

12th November ‘PERFECT PLANTS FOR SUSTAINABLE GARDENING’ – Gillian Taylor
Gillian is a member of the Hampshire Plant Heritage group, a volunteer for the Hampshire Gardens Trust and also for Perennial Horticultural Charity. She gave us an excellent talk on My Greenhouse Year in 2022 and we look forward to this very topical subject.
