Tuesday 27th February
‘Arley Hall Gardens and the Plants that cope with Weather Extremes’ – Gordon Baillie
Gordon is the Head Gardener at Arley Hall the home of Lord and Lady Ashbrook. Originally from Glasgow, he has spent time at a number of nurseries and estates before tending to the gardens at this beautiful estate, which have been created over the past 250 years by successive generations of the same family.

Tuesday 19th March
‘Wine from the Vale of Clwyd’ – Gwen Davies
Vale Vineyard stands tall on the lower slopes of the Clwydian Range. The unique micro climate and the quality ‘terroir’ (the complete natural environment in which a particular wine is produced including factors such as the soil, topography and climate) provide a superb location for the vines to produce quality grapes which make their award winning wines. Gwen will talk about how the vineyard was established and bring us samples to try.

Tuesday 16th April
‘Low-maintenance Gardening’ – Richard Rallings
Richard and Jill run Mynd Hardy Plants nursery within the Victorian Walled Garden of Delbury Hall in Diddlebury, Shropshire. The nursery has an extensive range of hardy perennials including collections of Aster, hardy geraniums, Hemerocallis and Penstemon. This talk examines ways in which you can continue to enjoy your garden whilst reducing the workload. Nursery plants for sale.

Tuesday 14th May
‘Garden Features and Plant Combinations’ – Gordon Malt
Gordon trained at Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh and has 45 years’ experience in Horticulture and Arboriculture. He was a finalist in a National Garden Competition in 2015 and has opened his garden in Shropshire for the NGS. Gordon describes his gardening style as ‘controlled relaxation’.

PLANT FAIR, Sunday 19th May
10.30am to 1.30pm at the Stamford Gate Hotel HPS Clwyd and invited nurseries plant stalls.
Members of the public are very welcome. Free admission and free parking.

Tuesday 17th September
‘Late Herbaceous Perennials’ – Don Whitton
Don is holder of a Plant Heritage National Collection of Euphorbia; author of the Euphorbia HPS booklet; has featured on BBC Gardener’s World and in numerous magazines including RHS The Garden. His talk will be about a sumptuous array of perennials which give of their best from midsummer to October, including numerous examples of the more colourful and fashionable genera. Don will bring plants for sale.

Tuesday 15th October
‘A Year in John Massey’s Garden’ – Nigel Hopes
In this talk, Nigel provides a Head Gardener’s behind the scenes tour of John Massey’s Private Garden at Ashwood Nurseries, in the West Midlands with highlights through the year and plenty of practical advice. No two talks of this title are the same as John’s garden has changes every year. Plants for sale.

Tuesday 12th November
‘The World in One Garden’ — Barry Grain
Barry has been Head Gardener at Cholomondelay Castle Gardens in Malpas, Cheshire since February 2013. This tailored talk focusses on some of the named plants in the gardens illustrated with close up photographs. He will tell us about many new and exciting projects, some completed and some planned for the coming years.
